The Sun God

Last Thursday was the last day at summer camp for the boys. Last sight of The Sun God, located where I dropped off the kids and picked them up.
One thing I love in San Diego: all the sculptures by Niki De St Phalle.

Before leaving San Diego

The computer will be packed shortly. I will try not to miss the canyon too much. I enjoyed it for six years, which is an amazing gift. Life is about changes and I am trying to let go and stop resisting the idea of moving. Let's take it day by day. Everything is fine. Or will be.
Tomorrow, going to San Jose via Highway 1 with the boys. We'll take our time. First stop Santa Barbara.
Forgot to take warm clothes, everything has been packed now.
We'll see.

Taking Down the Exhibition

Yesterday I took down "Correspondences and Elevation". Painted the wall back to white. Months of preparation, showing for a few weeks. It's gone.

Leaving in a few days.

I went to Escondido to bring my piece for the upcoming fundraiser for the Center Museum of the California Center for the Arts in Escondido.
"All proceeds from Curiosity: SEASONed to Perfection support the Center’s Education, Museum and Performing Arts programs."
It is rare I donate a piece for a fundraiser and I did twice in almost a month (the other one was for The Museum School), but both supports two important organizations for the arts in the area.

My piece continues a series I started a year ago about "connections" between people in almost empty spaces (ocean and/or desert).

"LUCENT is an interactive installation commissioned by the Office of Research Affairs, University of California, San Diego. The LUCENT system creates image sequences by associating words from a subset of records in the university library database with tagged images on Flickr. The particular subset of library texts was chosen by the artists, and includes all titles that contain words dealing with "light" for example, "light", "lucent", "illuminate", "illuminated" etc.

When the system is in its passive state, it shows only a live-feed of the sky as seen through a skylight in the building.

Territories Series / Connections # 25,

Before leaving San Diego and returning to France, my mom decided to buy this painting. She loves it - she already bought some paintings of that same series "Territories Series / Connections".

She left the day before the Summer Salon Series I was invited to. She was not happy to miss it (There was a misunderstanding about the dates when she bought her ticket in France. Unfortunately she could not change it). But in a way she participated in that very special evening at the San Diego Museum of Art.

By buying the painting she paid for all the t-shirts given away during the events, for one banner and for other material. Thank you so much for supporting my art and it is not the first time! I believe in "investing" in my art, by making the choice to spend some money for a project I am working on. I know that it is not always necessary but sometimes it is not about how not to spend anything for a project but about spending reasonably to get the result I wish. Even if in the end there is nothing to sell - and in that case it was giving away t-shirts and prints.

My mom could not take the painting on the plane (we learned that at the airport: the format, although not very big, was not not allowed in the cabin). So yesterday I shipped it via USPS with the cheapest option. I also put in the package one of the limited series of prints (10) I've made (and that Claudia printed) for Lori Lipsman's bulletin board, part of her upcoming exhibition "Canyon Shadow Play" a Art Produce Gallery.
My mom will get the painting and the print in a few weeks.
