Temporary image

San Diego-Paris, 2009, 20x35 inches (49x89 cm)

Image sent today to Ivan in Paris, to be put on a special door in the street, in his neighborhood. It's Ivan's idea and I like it! Right now there is one of his images there. I guess we will alternate. Eric participates too.

My contribution to the association "Une Vie, Un Arbre"

envelope, 9x12 inches

I sent yesterday my envelope to participate to the annual mail art exhibition of the French Association "Une vie Un Arbre". All of the proceeds from the sale go to the association, which helps children affected by serious diseases and facing long hospital stays.
My friend Ivan told me about the possibility to participate a few months ago, but I waited a lot before to do my project and the deadline is April 4th. Hopefully my envelope will fly fast and arrive in Vienne on time!
Ivan participated to the show last year. He is a special guest this year, along with 11 other artists. He will be in Vienne to show some mail art and more.

- Update, March 29: Gilbert Fanjat, the director of the association, says everyone can still send envelopes to the association (see the address below). All the envelopes which arrive (in Sainte Colombe, France) before April 18 will be displayed.

REDCAT: Atelier Bow Wow, small case study house / Art Run Los Angeles / part 2

After the MOCA, we went to the Disney Concert Hall. It was my first visit to REDCAT, where the show was: "Atelier Bow Wow, small case study house". An impressive structure, where one feels like taking a nap, or spending some quiet time. Heavy and sturdy. At the same time warm and inviting.

Art run in L.A. last Sunday. The show "Dan Graham: Beyond" at MOCA is extremely dry and repetitive. I may have miss something!
Fortunately there is another exhibition,
"A changing Ratio: Paintings and Sculptures from the collection" with a magnificent surprise: an entire room of Rothkos.

Since the Circa Series at the MCASD La Jolla in 2007, where I first saw her drawings, I am always very interested to see what Iana Quesnell is working on.
"The Blue Danube Waltz" consists in 60 drawings of 60 poses so far. I was already very intrigued by the series of drawings as it is, but I got the chance to talk to Iana at the opening and she told me more about this project in progress. Now I am very curious to see the result in a few months. This is fascinating. She took a video of herself, re-enacting a scene of 2001 Space Odyssey (where the primate uses the bone as a weapon for the first time). She then started to draw each frame from the video. In the end there should be 600 drawings (10 times what is displayed in this show!). They will be animated and the audio will be "The BLue Danube Waltz", featured in 2001 Space Odyssey when the spaceship is travelling.

A lot of people came to the opening of "New Contemporaries II" during Kettner Nights and I was thrilled to see so many friends. My mom and her friend were there - they arranged their trip from France to come to the opening.
I had a great time talking about my work in a very nice atmosphere. And the pleasure to talk to some of the artists.

Did not take many pictures.

Daniel Ruanova: Defend Security / Constructs of a people fearing society

I went to Seminal Projects last Saturday to listen to Daniel Ruanova's talk about his show "Defend Security / Constructs of a people fearing society". Daniel lives and works in Tijuana. There are two pieces in the show: one mural-size painting where on can read the word "security" and one large metallic sculpture.
His sculpture is very strong and beautiful, but despite the title of the show, I do not feel threatened by it. It is a very attractive/seductive piece.
