"Darwin and Me" in the San Diego Union Tribune
Death Valley, Providence Ridge,
next to Aguereberry camp
Coming back from Death Valley Saturday evening, I read the article Keli Dailey wrote in the San Diego Union Tribune. The article was printed in the December 31 issue. I read it two days after it was published: there is no connection in Death Valley (which makes the trip even more interesting - a week without internet, without clicking, without checking!).
Darwin and me
Michele Guieu has worked a broad mix of personal materials into her new exhibit
By Keli Dailey, Content Producer Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 12:01 a.m.
One of the ways to enjoy artist Michele Guieu’s new solo show, “Lucy, Darwin and Me,” at ART Produce Gallery through Jan. 24, is from the Turkish cafe next door.
When you’re inside Caffe Carpe Diem, turn your chair toward the street, and take in the sidewalk response to her work. Pedestrians stutter-step and look through the neighboring gallery’s storefront window, which gives a view to Guieu’s black-and-white indoor mural of floating skulls. Passers-by read the words Guieu glued outside to the glass: The black letter decals are like refrigerator-magnet poetry, except they evoke ideas about evolution.
